hiTrecords is proud to introduce “When Your Woman Leaves” by Tom Donald. Tom is an original hiTrecords artist, which seems right, given that he and his wife Mitzi Ngim own the label. That distinction aside, he loves music of all kinds and likes to give diverse genres a go. Such it is with “When Your Woman Leaves,” written by Tom and his long-time writing partner Frank Grant. It’s ostensibly an alt-rock story of loss and lament, yet there’s a rising quality to this track that portends a brighter future.
Tom writes music on his many guitars, but also on the 116-year-old family piano, an upright that rings loudly, “Just the way it should,” according to Tom. He draws his inspiration from widely disparate artists and writers, from Bob Dylan to Horace Silver, and beyond. One of his favorite aphorisms poses the question, “At the end of the day, did you like the song?” We hope you do, and thank you for listening.
